Christmas Glow

About a week ago, I wanted to get out and get some reference pics of christmas light decorations, but that just didn't happen.  Yesterday, I still had the inspiration inside me, so I thought I would just create a composition of the lights.  I used a pic I took one morning when I was dropping my oldest son off at school.  I didn't know why I snapped the photo that morning, and I am so glad I didn't delete it like I was thinking on doing.
Merry Christmas Everyone!

Winter has Arrived

Sunday was the first day of winter.  It would be nice to see a 'little' snow, but the forecast is showing snow for New Years Eve.  I guess we'll have to see how that goes.  In the meantime, I will continue to paint scenes of snow from memory.  I admit I actually like to paint from my imagination rather than from a photo reference.  There is such freedom in the creation.

In the Big South Fork ~ Midnight Clear

I love nocturnes.  Painting night scenes is a rewarding challenge.  This little tree grows between the big boulders along the Big South Fork River.  Out of place, yet securely belongs.  If I were a tree, this would be me.

Eagle Falls

One of my favorite landscape elements to paint is water.  Waterfalls are especially fun!  This is Eagle Falls located @ Cumberland Falls State Park

November Rain

As I drive around town, I like to take photos to use as reference for my paintings.  On Nov 5th, I took a little video along Ky 741 in Revelo.  You can see it here.  The video is not the best quality, but it did allow me enough info to paint this one.

Peace

I was driving by the Stearns Cemetary the other day and saw this little scene.  Something told me, "go back".  I turned the car around and went back to take a photo, but the light I had seen was gone.  I am so thankful for my memory and ability to paint, cause sometimes...the camera just cannot capture what I see.

Inspiration via Video

The rain was slow and steady and had set in for the whole day on Wed, Nov 5.  I thought I'd just take a few snaps as I ran my errands, but I switched over to video to capture the sound of the rain.  I appologize for the louder crackling sound...I don't know exactly where that is coming from.  Anyway, after watching the video when I got home,  I realized this is a good reference source for creating my work.  I am currently working on that and will post the finished paintings soon...

Splash of Green

Here is a look back to a splash of summers green as we wait for the predicted snow showers from the arctic storm dipping south into the USA.  I'm not sure if we will get any accumulation here, but alas winter is on its way.

Many of the locals know of this place as the baptising hole. Where everyone that is baptised is just to the right outside the image. I intend on doing another painting or sketch of the baptising hole with the big boulder rocks on the other side of the creek.

I remember spending some hot summer days as a young child playing in this creek and building small houses out of the pebbles along the water's edge.  I'd venture to say that many of my friends and family have a similiar memory.

Go with the Flow

With acrylic ink being a fluid medium, like watercolor, there is a worried excitement you get when touching the brush to canvas.  It is as if you blindly walk along expecting to trip over something only to find you have arrived safely to your destination.

This medium is true to the phrase 'Just go with the flow'.  One must let go and believe all will work out.  In the end, it does with many 'natural' strokes you probably could not have painted better if you had purposely tried.

Acrylic Ink ... A new beginning

For a while now, I have felt myself moving in the direction of a more fluid medium.  I have tried to push the fluid boundary of high-viscosity acrylics to no avail.  At least for me.  So...I was looking at the different mediums available, and Aha!  Acrylic Ink - highly pigmented, lighfast, and permanant color.  The ink brushes on with the same 'fliud' characteristics of that of watercolor.  Here is an example of one of my first attempts.

So...for now...I am going to just go with the flow, and see where this new medium will take me.

Take Care,  Trish
